My Support Letter

In case you haven’t heard me talk about World Race excessively and know the call the Lord has laid upon my heart to go, here’s a quick little run down of what my life will look like in 2017. On January 11, 2017 I will board a plane in Atlanta, GA and say “see ya later” to the States until that November. World Race is a program offered by the organization Adventures in Missions that sends 21-35 year olds to 11 different countries- one a month for 11 months. I will start off in Mozambique, traveling to Swaziland, Madagascar, Mongolia, China, India, Nepal, Myanmar , Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and El Salvador from there! Woohoo! While in each country, my squad and I will be stationed in various locations doing whatever we can to meet the needs of the ministry we are working with for the entirety of that month. Just as the countries we will travel to differ from one another, so will the mission work we do dependent upon the needs to be met. I will carry all of my belongings in a pack and live in a tent, hostels, and host homes for 11 months. And you know what? As crazy as that sounds, the Lord has been so good to grant me peace among the chaos as I rest fully in the assurance that He has called me to the Race, He is equipping me to go, and He will surely be with me every step of the way.

I have wanted to take off on my own World Race since 2013 when I met a group of World Racers in Romania where my church youth group and I were on a mission trip. Listening to their stories about what the Lord had been doing in their lives and the lives of those they had come in contact with on their Race only intensified my heart for the nations, and a longing to love those who have yet to know how sweet my Savior is. I have no doubt the Lord so wonderfully orchestrated the circumstances that led to me meeting those Racers that I began thinking “perhaps I was made for such a time as this- perhaps this is what the Lord has for me.”

Because each participant is required to be 21, I have not-so-patiently waited out the past three years and am pumped to say that I am leaving for the World Race in 26 days!! I repeat: 26 DAYS! I have already met my December deadline of $10,000, but still need a total of $17,000 by the end of April 2017. This is where you come in. As I brainstormed a list of potential supporters, you came into my mind because of your involvement in and impact on my life so far. I believe that by partnering with me me as I take off on my next grand adventure, the Lord is inviting you to take part in His work- the advancement of His Kingdom and the renown of His name. If you are able and willing, your financial and prayerful support would mean a ton to me. You can financially support me a couple of ways.

  1. Online: You can head over to my blog katymichael.theworldrace.org and click on the “donate button” on the left toolbar. Adventures in Missions offers one-time or recurring donation options.

  2. Send a check: Make checks payable to Adventures in Missions and send to Adventures in Missions P.O. Box 742570 Atlanta, GA 30374-2570. Make sure to write “World Race: Katy Michael” in the memo line. Adventures in Missions does not accept mailed in cash donations.

  3. T-shirts: I will be selling t-shirts to help fund my trip for $20-$25 a piece. Stay tuned for more info and feel free to reach out to me if you are interested!

Though $17,000 seems a bit daunting (by “a bit” I mean extremely daunting), I did a little math and figured that if I could get 50 people who were willing to donate $28 a month until April or a one-time donation of $140, I will be completely funded by my deadline! $28 is like coffee for the month! If I could even get 25 people who were willing to donate $50 a month, I would be set! May I be bold enough to ask you to make a monthly financial commitment in partnering with me? Even if your monthly amount differs from the $28 or $50 I suggested, any amount will be greatly appreciated and well used- every penny of it.

While raising funds has been at the forefront of my mind lately in terms of gathering support, the power of prayer among the Lord’s people is not lost on me. Would you be willing to faithfully and expectantly pray with me as I get ready for my launch in January and throughout the entirety of my trip? As you pray in whatever way the Lord leads you, here are a few things you can pray for specifically:

  • I would have a sound mind that is in tune with the Lord’s will

  • All of my fundraising needs would be met

  • Safety in all of my travels

  • The people and ministries we will come in contact with while out in the field

  • Community-building with my Squad and Team members

  • Peace in the hearts of my family and friends as I get ready to leave

  • My faith to remain bigger than the spiritual warfare I am surrounded by

  • The Lord to be made known and made much of in all of our lives

The Scripture I have chosen as my heart cry for the World Race is Philippians 3:7-14 if you would like a passage to pray in accordance with for and alongside me.

You rock. Truly, my words lack the elegance with which I wish to thank you in advance for your faithful obedience to the Lord’s call in partnering with me- if indeed you feel He is calling you to do so! Having you as a key piece of my community and support at home while I am gone already means the world to me. Make sure to check out katymichael.theworldrace.org for blog posts before and during my Race!

Thank you for loving me and the Lord so well!
